Dictionary.com defines ‘soapbox’ as an improvised platform, as one on a street, from which a speaker delivers an informal speech or appeal. The term ‘get off your soapbox’, or ‘they’re on their soapbox again’, has been long used for people who have a constant agenda to persuade others to their set of beliefs.
I was thinking earlier, that as Apostolics, we need to get up on our soapbox! Those belonging to the world’s wide array of religions have always been on their soapboxes, trying to persuade other’s to join their ranks. Those without religion have long been on their soapboxes trying to persuade other’s that there is no god, and that life is all about having fun and feeling good. Anti-religious folks have no fear about getting ‘in our faces’ and trying to discredit us and God!
I believe that if there was ever a time for us to get on our soapbox, that time is now! My soapbox needs to be truth! My soapbox needs to the Word of God! My soapbox needs to be the plan of salvation spelled out in the book of Acts!
Revelations 12:11 (KJV) And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
1 Corinthians 1:21 (KJV) For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
There is only one way that we are going to overcome those that are reaching out with an anti-Apostolic message. There is only one way we are going to reach the masses in our world. And that is by getting on our soapbox, and sharing our testimony!
One thing that I have learned in life is that passion communicates! If one is passionate about something, if they truly believe it, if they are completely sold out to it, that passion will come forth in their communication. We need to get passionate about the truth, and get up on our soapbox, and share it with the world!
I posted yesterday in preparation for Thanksgiving, and yet I sit here feeling the ‘urge’ to post yet again! The house is full this morning with my cousin and his wife, and seven children, along with the noise that comes with children. My parents are on the road and should be arriving here within the hour. My wife and I and my cousin Doug got up this morning and swept out the garage and set up tables and chairs. The turkey and ham are in the roasters, the rolls are rising, the pumpkin pies and the apple pie are made and cooling in the fridge. We are preparing to start peeling potatoes and soon the kitchen will be bustling with the final preparations of the Thanksgiving dinner.
With all the hustle and bustle that goes into a Thanksgiving celebration…and with all the joy that we feel with family near, let’s not forget to give credit where it is due!
How richly God has blessed my life! I am so grateful for all His blessings…a warm home, the delicious food we will be enjoying, the peace brought by His presence, all my needs supplied, and more than I could begin to type!
Take time out today and give thanks to the Lord!
Happy Thanksgiving to my family and friends!
The old song says:
I am blessed, I am blessed
Every day that I live I am blessed
When I wake up in the morning, till I lay my head to rest
I am blessed, I am blessed
This could very well be the theme song for my life! I am definitely blessed!
With Thanksgiving coming in just a couple short days…this past Sunday being our Thanksgiving service at church…tomorrow’s (Wednesday) service being our Praise & Testimony Service…family coming to celebrate…my mind has been on Thanksgiving lately. Or more the subject of thanks rather than the holiday itself!
Scripture speaks on the subject:
1 Thessalonians 5:18
In every thing give thanks:for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
I spoke on Sunday on being thankful…human nature causes us to focus on what we don’t have, rather than taking notice of what we do have! We need to overcome the fleshly desire of negativity and take note of the abundant blessing in our lives!
Taking from my message this past Sunday:
This Thanksgiving, what do I have to give thanks for?
I’m not rich…but I have a warm home and food on my table!
I’m not well known…but I have friends and I have family!
My family is not near…but I have a wonderful church family!
I have a wonderful wife and three healthy children!
I have not one, but two great churches!
The Lord has blessed me with both ministry and opportunities that I never would have dreamed in my wildest dreams!
And mostly…I have a God who clothed Himself in flesh and walked this earth and died on a cross for my sins, and came into my life and filled me with His presence!
Today, this week, this year…I am thankful!
I recently read an article that included a statement, ‘nothing is fun until you’re good at it’. How true that statement really is! I think about when I was learning to play the piano…I LOVED the piano, but had absolutely NO desire to practice it! I WANTED to be good at it…I WANTED to excel at it…but I did NOT want to practice it! I can remember as a child, sitting down at the piano, and just BANGING my fingers against the keys…and the AWFUL clanging noise that would come forth! I could sit and BANG and sing out songs for hours…but trust me…there was no beautiful music coming forth. My parents would have to make me sit down and practice!
We all want to be champions…we all want to succeed…
The old saying still rings true…”Practice Makes Perfect”!
Practice a life of prayer! Make yourself sit down and read the Word! Force yourself to worship at all times!
WE CAN BE CHAMPIONS!
